Thursday, 31 August Canadian Embassy presents:
17:00
Flemingdon Park: The Global Village Dir: Andrew Faiz / Canada 2002 / 47 min
25,000 Residents, 100 Nations, 100 Languages. Welcome to the Most Multicultural Community on Earth. Built in 1961 by the visionary developer of the United Nations complex in New York City, Flemingdon Park started out as a trendy, urban utopia for artists and young professionals living in Toronto. Within a decade it was sold and became subsidised housing, eventually attracting tens of thousands of refugees and new immigrants from around the globe.
Between: Living in the Hyphen Dir: Anne Marie Nakagawa / Canada 2005 / 43 min

In Canada, diversity often means "one ethnicity + hyphen + Canadian," but what if you don’t fit into an easy category? What if your background is a hybrid of ancestries and you live somewhere between, where cultural identities overlap?
19:00 Double Happiness Dir: Mina Shum, cast: Sandra Oh, Callum Keith Rennie, Alannah Ong / Canada 1994 / 87 min Jade Li is a feisty, 20-something Chinese Canadian, trying to achieve that happy medium between giving in to her parents' wishes and fulfilling her own needs and desires - double happiness. Naturally, something’s got to give and when love beckons in the shape of Mark, a white university student, the facade of the perfect Chinese daughter begins to slip.
