A group of poor people in the Southern coasts of Iran reside on an old, abandoned ship. In this little self-contained society life goes on as it would anywhere else - children are raised, marriages arranged and death rakes its toll. Captain Nemat, the chief commands the vessel and its inhabitants, trying to maintain their home, at the same time selling parts of the ship off, piece by piece...

Ostensibly a fast-paced tale about poor people in the Persian Gulf living aboard a sinking oil tanker, "Iron Island" is a galloping fable full of offbeat characters and entertaining moments. At the same time, it doesn't take much to read this second feature from director Mohammad Rasoulof as a sharp-edged allegory about the country of Iran.
