9th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival awards


At the closing ceremony of the 9th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival on Saturday evening in Kosmos cinema the following award-winners were announced:

GRAND PRIX FOR BEST EURASIAN FILM (with cash award of 10.000 EUR)
SHANGHAI DREAMS / QING HONG (Wang Xiaoshuai, China)

JURY PRIZE FOR THE BEST DIRECTOR
HOU SHIAO-SHIEN (Three Times / Zui Hao De Shi Guang, Taiwan / (China))

JURY PRIZE FOR THE BEST ACTOR
JESPER CHRISTENSEN (Manslaughter / Drabet, Denmark)

JURY PRIZE FOR THE BEST ACTRESS
MARIA LUNDQVIST (Mother of Mine / Äideistä parhain, Finland / Sweden)

SPECIAL JURY PRIZE
THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU / MOARTEA DOMNULUI LAZARESCU (Cristi Puiu, Romania)

SCOTTISH LEADER ESTONIAN FILM AWARD
PÄRNOGRAPHY / MEES ANIMATSOONIST (Hardi Volmer)

NETPAC JURY AWARD
EARTH AND ASHES / KHAKESTAR-O-KHAK (Atiq Rahimi, Afghanistan / France)
- Unique and poetic road-movie detailing tragic reality of Afghanistan war

FICC JURY AWARD – DON QUIJOTE AWARD
MANSLAUGHTER / DRABET (Per Fly, Denmark)
- The film gives us a dramatic and well-told story that in a convincing way deals with questions of personal choices and their irreversible consequences

SPECIAL MENTION
THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU / MOARTEA DOMNULUI LAZARESCU (Cristi Puiu, Romania)
- The film tells us a tragicomic and documental story about an helpless person in an established system. Human life as the most sacred value is shown from its most natural and ordinary side. It demolishes the myth of the great value of every single human life by showing a death of a man being as ordinary as eating and sleeping.

- For depicting an era in film convincing and elegant way

Life Achievement Award was already handed out at the opening of the main programme on the 2nd of December: 

LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
ELBERT TUGANOV (Animation Director, Estonia)
- The founder of Estonian puppet-animation and continuing tradition of Estonian animation
