tARTuFF came, saw and conquered hearts

The first edition of open-air film festival tARTuFF had its final screening yesterday night in Tartu Town Hall Square. Despite of the occasional rainfall the free week-long event attracted near to 10 000 viewers.

The main programme on Town Hall Square gathered around 8500 viewers, and the special programme of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s films together with the film programme of cultural tolerance conference around 1000. Altogether 40 films were screened. The festival included an international conference on cultural tolerance.

From all the films screened on Town Hall Square the audience voted Spanish “Volver” to be their favourite.  To its director Pedro Almodóvar will be sent a mini version of the “kissing students”-sculpture on the behalf of the Black Nights Film Festival and Tartu City Government.

The next tARTuFF will take place in August of the coming year.
